CDCU Self Assessment Questions

  1. What is a CDCU?
    A community development credit union is a credit union with the mission of serving low-income people and communities. They are non-profit and tax exempt, cooperatively owned and governed and are regulated by the federal government with deposit insurance.

  2. List some characteristics of a CDCU.
    CDCU provide fairly priced loans to member with imperfect, limited, or no credit. They offer a safe place to save and conduct other financial transactions at a reasonable cost. They provide financial education for members.

  3. Why might a CDCU be a good partner for an assistive technology Alternative Financing Program or an Access to Telework loan program?
    CDCUs serve people with disabilities. They have a similar mission as the AFP and Telework loan programs. They provide many of the credit and financing services needed by those who do not have access to mainstream banks and traditional financial institutions.
