Lemon laws offer consumer protection for those who purchase items that are defective. Several states have passed lemon laws to guard consumers against purchases of "lemon" assistive technology. Thirty-eight AT Act projects have worked with the consumers in their states to pass assistive technology "lemon," or warranty legislation to protect consumers against assistive technology with substantial or continuing defects.

A two and a half day specialized workshop was hosted by NATTAP in Raleigh, North Carolina and was designed for participants who were starting new device demonstration and loan programs as well as those participants looking to enhance/improve their device demonstration and loan programs. The agenda for this workshop, which was developed by a planning group of state AT directors and device demonstration and loan center personnel, was structured to address the essentials for building, maintaining, and sustaining a device demonstration and device loan program. Presentations provided information so that participants could compare and contrast their programs.
Moderated discussions on Day 1 allowed for sharing of operational details and decision-making about program structure. The North Carolina AT Center in Raleigh hosted an Open House for participants to take a tour of their facility with staff on hand to answer questions.
Day 2 sessions were built around maintaining device demonstration and loan programs. Concurrent roundtable discussions on the second day allowed people to move through smaller informal discussions on specific topics.
Day 3 sessions focused on sustainability of device demonstration and loan programs.

On July 16, 2012, Diane Golden with CATADA presented on understanding performance measures at the ATAP Directors Leadership Meeting in Washington, D.C. With the new RSA set targets, states will be placed in “met” or “not met” categories, which eventually will be used to evaluate overall performance of the AT Act Programs. This presentation reviewed the current performance measures, how data is collected and reported for each, and provided time for sharing about use of performance measure data and strategies for addressing low percentages.

AgrAbility is a grant program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that provides education, assistance and support to farmers and ranchers with disabilities. Statewide AT Programs are collaborating with AgrAbility to reach out to rural areas of the state and to provide access to AT to farmers and their families. A conference call held on March 22, 2007 provided an overview of the AgrAbility Program from a national perspective, an overview of specific state models, partnerships and relationships of the AgrAbility Programs and tips and strategies on why and how to become involved with AgrAbility in your state.

This call helped the states to continue to discuss the activities they were doing as part of their feasibility studies, such as conducting online surveys, distributing mail in surveys, and hosting focus groups. The discussion also touched on the selection of audiences to survey. Patti Lind then provided information on deriving recommendations from the data. Particular emphasis was placed on determining loan products to fit the needs, such as direct loan for unbankable consumers. The discussion touched on the various audiences for the study findings, such as potential funders to justify the market.
