Every day, Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams across the country determine the need for Assistive Technology (AT) in order for students to access the educational curriculum and to ensure a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE). This is mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEIA-2004). It is then the team’s responsibility to select and ensure assistive technology tools and evidence based practices are implemented correctly into the academic curriculum. This can be challenging! Come explore the foundations of evidence based practice and the implementation of AT in the core curriculum. Join us as we probe into finding practical classroom examples of evidence based practices and the use of assistive technology in the classroom and uncover a variety of tools and solutions in the reality of meeting this challenge!
